Why visit Corpus Christi

Texas

1267

There’s something about the Lone Star State that continues to capture the hearts of travelers and residents alike. As the union’s 2nd largest state, Texas has something for everyone. It’s landscape extends from the flat, dry oil fields of the west to the sun-kissed beaches to the southeast. One of the most popular locations for beach-goers to flock to is the enchanting city of Corpus Christi. This coastal city in south Texas has more than beaches, though, to attract the interest of travelers. Here is a list of some reasons why you should visit Corpus Christi.

4 must-see attractions in Corpus Christi

The USS Lexington

Corpus Christi is home to the historic USS Lexington, a famous aircraft carrier with a storied history. This aircraft carrier is a must-see for anyone who visits Corpus Christi. After the carrier was decommissioned, it was turned into a museum where visitors can walk through and get a real sense as to what it was like to be a sailor on a World War II aircraft carrier. With meticulously mopped floors and fresh paint throughout, the USS Lexington is in amazing condition, considering it is nearly 80 years old! This attraction is very affordable and will interest people of all ages. Fair warning, though, it requires a lot of stair-stepping as you descend into the bowels of the carrier.

The Texas State Aquarium

Within shouting distance of the USS Lexington is the Texas State Aquarium. Home to thousands of animals representing hundreds of species, the Texas State Aquarium will dazzle and inspire! Although the aquarium suggests you spend 3 hours, you can experience it all in half that time. Just don’t stop to read every sign.

Corpus Christi Harbor Bridge

Although the Corpus Christi Harbor Bridge is on this list, it really isn’t an attraction to “stop” at or on! You can’t miss this architectural wonder as you drive through the city. If you spend the night in Corpus Christi, consider heading down to the bridge after sunset to watch a nightly light show on the bridge. Also, the bridge is great for a lovely walk. Oh, and it’s free 🙂

The Downtown Seawall

The downtown seawall is a beautiful place to take a leisurely stroll and enjoy the breathtaking views of the Gulf. With the USS Lexington situated in the distance, the walk along the seawall is truly an historic and beautiful experience.

Conclusion

There is so much to see in the great state of Texas, but if you’re looking for a good place to begin, might I suggest starting in Corpus Christi! It is one of the best kept secrets in the best state in the union!
